Deeside Ice Rink

There are, according to skaters, many different types of ice. Hard ice, soft ice, slushy ice. And then there's the stuff at Deeside Ice Rink.

Built up carefully layer by layer on an Olympic-sized pad measuring 60 by 30 metres. Maintained at a constant -3.5 degrees with just the right amount of humidity. And resurfaced every few hours to keep it smooth.

The could be the best ice in Britain. No wonder it attracts more than 100,000 skaters every year from all over Noth Wales and the North West of England. And it's not just for Olympic hopefuls, although we have our share of those.

It's for raw beginners, too. Especially when 'Dancing on Ice' is on the telly. We have no fewer than nine permanent coaches who'll take you through everything from just standing up to performing a forward inside Mohawk. Whatever that is.

Ruthin Gaol

Good news, combine harvester fans. The machine at Greenfield Valley Heritage Park's farm museum in Holywell is officially in britain's top 10. The rest of you can just look at the lovely animals.
