Peter McDermott from Denbighshire
County Council has been selected to lead the Cantata Partnership, a
unique partnership of five tourism bodies, in the Atlantic Area of
Europe supporting local businesses, as part of a 2.2 million Euro
tourism development project.
The project aims to connect tourists to five non-traditional
tourist destinations which are regarded as 'off the beaten track'
and have historically faced similar difficulties to each other.
The regions- including Denbighshire, Shannon in Ireland, Poher
in Brittany, Galicia in Northern Spain and Montemor-o-Velho
in Portugal- have partnered to share best practice and to
strengthen links between public bodies responsible for tourism and
the private sector.
This includes local hotels, businesses and attractions and
through this, local businesses have been equipped with the
expertise and confidence to promote the authenticity of their local
area.
The partnership has promoted 'alternative tourism' by developing
unique products for local businesses, such as gastronomy trail
packages in Galicia and digital
guidebooks in Denbighshire.
Peter said: "The Cantata project demonstrates how collaboration
and sharing best practice across Europe can support tourism
offerings in destinations that are often overlooked by
holidaymakers. In an economic climate that has seen the European
travel and tourism industry suffer, this project is particularly
apt."
The tourist board and local businesses in Denbighshire are
delighted to be involved in the project, and proud of Peter's
involvement, and look forward to learning from other destinations
to make Denbighshire even more of a must visit!
