Travel Diary: Moel Famau

NWB1

Being a keen walker in my native Devon, I've been keen to explore the hills of wales since I moved to Chester a few years back, and Moel Famau was high on my hit list.

I'd been told about the amazing views and they really did not disappoint.
We arrived at the foot of Moel Famau & were greeted by some very friendly sheep and armed with our flask and sandwiches we chose what we think was the purple route and headed off.

The walk was steep in places but on the whole really manageable and on the way up we saw lots of birds and of course the famous Moel Famau heather and it was nice to be in and out of the forest and the shade.

The route become more open as we got higher and the day we went was really bright and clear, especially as it was early September and we sat on a tree stump and enjoyed the sun and view for a while, before we set off again to the top and the Jubilee Tower.

What a view?!! We particularly liked the brass mounts that mapped the view so we could try and spot places we recognised, and the sheer distance that we could see too was fantastic!

On the way back down we took the more winding route that goes around the outside of Moel Famau so were in sunlight the whole way down and could see more of the view.

We had a great day at Moel Famau and are looking forward to going back with our bikes to explore some more trails.
